It may surprise you to learn that New Zealand Fashion Week is on at the moment. I mean, New Zealand isn't exactly renowned for its haute couture or gorgeous inhabitants (no one ever comes away from a trip to Aotearoa saying "oh, the women are so stylish!" or "the men are so handsome!").

I don't follow many fashion blogs, mostly because I don't need to be reminded that my 'look' (harried working mother, accessorised with streak of toddler snot) isn't going to win any prizes. But for
this one, written by a colleague of mine, I'll make an exception. If you have any interest in fashion, Antipodean or not, you should check it out. You should still check it out if you're not interested in fashion, because it's hilarious - and because she asks why food critics say what they think but most fashion writers don't, which is an excellent question.
Are you a dedicated follower of fashion?
Arrrggghhh intrigued but I can't access the link via my mobile and I'm in bed and can't be bothered to get up to my computer. I'll read it in the morning. I studied fashion design don't you know?
ReplyDeleteOf course I'm a dedicated follower of fashion - it's just that I follow it from a considerable distance. I'm currently wearing a T-shirt that was very fashionable in 1988. Thank heavens for charity shops.
ReplyDeleteHaha. Goodness no! My clothes are all thrift store finds that I've hemmed down (I'm short). I'd rather spend my money on food and art supplies. :) Great picture by the way!
ReplyDeleteHhaha you made me laugh.You know it is a good thing that kiwis are so laid back,.My mother was o so happy coming from Europe that kids
ReplyDeletehave uniform, and brand clohes are not important( although my brother cried the first day he had to put it on.There are people that follow fasion,younger ones like our asian population.And of course we have beautiful man and woman here;)Beauty comes in many faces;).
Me myself?I am recycling freak(sad I fall in freak category doing the normal thing) and I also recycle and wear recycled clothes.
And we have Pavlova which is now proven ours(not Aussis:))
Funnily enough I used to think I wanted to be a fashion designer when I was a kid. I love old fashioned dresses from opshops, there's some very adventurous styles and they tend to fit my shape much better than stuff from, say...Glassons. You could say I am super into clothes, but not fashion exactly.
ReplyDeleteI don't read fashion magazines though I used to. I don't understand fashion anymore, I guess, and if I like it I can't afford it anyway. Also, I've been rather nostalgic of my youth lately and have found myself either drawn to 70's boho-ness or 80's chic. A weird combo, but I'll embrace this eccentricity. ; }
ReplyDeleteI can whole heartedly report that I am not a dedicated follower of fashion (I am from Tasmania after all lol)
ReplyDeleteGo NZ Fashion Week! I love that man's style! I'm not a big follower of fashion, but I do like a bit of style. Now I'm off to visit your colleague. Sounds awesome!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing... x
