Sweet sweet Friday: 'Wonder Day' Biscuits

It seems like years ago now, but I came home from our Christmas holiday at the end of December to discover the most amazing present in the letterbox - a copy of Dan Lepard's Short and Sweet. I'd heard a lot about the book - there's even a Twitter-based cook-off sort of thing called 'Short and Tweet' - and it's even better than I dreamed it would be.
The Random Recipes hook for January is to select a recipe from your newest cookbook, so I dipped into it with glee.

Wonder Day Biscuits
Dan Lepard calls these 'One A Day' Biscuits, but the Small Girl has renamed them 'Wonder Day' biscuits and is having trouble accepting that she's only allowed one a day. I blame her genes, because her father calls them 'Two or Three a Day if you're Daddy' Biscuits. They're very, very good, especially as a pre-breakfast snack if you are about to embark on a long run (which I am supposed to be doing at the moment). They are also good with a cup of tea in bed when even the thought of getting up makes you want to cry.

POSTSCRIPT
My apologies - I have removed this recipe from my blog at the request of Dan Lepard's editor. You'll just have to buy the book (which is absolutely worth it). Bon appetit!
Have a sweet, sweet weekend everyone x Pin It

  1. Yeah, isn't it an excellent book, so glad you got it. Might see you joining in #shortandtweet occasionally now. Love small girl's Wonder Biscuits - great name. Think I might take more after her father though ;-)

  2. I do take after her father- one of these will certainly not do, more like half a dozen!

  5. Oh I'll have to make these - look great. I'll also have to tell Steve that he has to serve me one with a cuppa in bed before he leaves for work. That would be a wonder day.

  9. Hi there,
Glad you like “Short & Sweet”, but we do ask bloggers not to post the recipes on their websites. We’re very happy if you want to talk about the recipe and how you made it, and encourage bloggers to post their own photos, but please remember that the book is copyright, and we ask people to respect that fact. So would you remove the ingredients list and method from this page ?
    Thanks,
    David Whitehouse, Editor, Short &Sweet

  10. Yummy these look really good. I'm a fellow Wgtn-ian and jumped here from Melissa's page (tiny happy). I'm a terrible cook but these look great. I love baking. ;)

  11. Hi again Lucy,
In your own "small print" you say "I'd love you to share my recipes and photos, but please don't reproduce them in any form without asking first".
I've asked you to take the cookie recipe off this blog, as it is copyright and while we encourage bloggers to talk about their own baking and post their pictures, we do ask them not to publish the recipes from Short & Sweet. I'd really be obliged if you would act on this.
    Thanks
David Whitehouse, Editor, Short & Swee

Hello - thanks for stopping by. If this was real life I'd make you a cup of tea and open the biscuit tin, but in lieu of those things, let's have a chat anyway...
